Pressure Swing Adsorption for Hydrogen Production

Hydrogen-containing (H₂) gas mixture enters the adsorption tower of the Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA for short) unit. As the adsorbent in the adsorption bed exhibits different adsorption capacities for various components in the gas mixture under varying pressures, impurities in the feed gas are adsorbed during pressurization, while the weakly adsorbable component (hydrogen) is output as a product from the outlet of the adsorption bed. During depressurization, the adsorbed impurity components are desorbed, and the adsorbent is regenerated simultaneously. A cyclic operation with at least four adsorption beds is adopted to realize continuous output of product hydrogen.

PSA Hydrogen Production Technology

Pressure swing adsorption for hydrogen production utilizes the selective adsorption of non-hydrogen components in hydrogen-rich gas mixtures by adsorbents under pressurized conditions to achieve the separation of hydrogen from other gas components. Meanwhile, the adsorbent releases the adsorbed impurity gases under depressurized conditions, regaining its adsorption capacity.

Methanol cracked gas, ammonia cracked gas, methanol tail gas, formaldehyde tail gas, shift gas, refining gas, hydrocarbon steam reforming gas, fermentation gas, polycrystalline silicon tail gas, semi-water gas, town gas, coke oven gas, catalytic cracking dry gas from oil refineries, reforming tail gas from oil refineries, and other hydrogen-containing (H₂) gas sources.
